About Our Program
Who is Children and Nutrition, Inc.?
Children and Nutrition, Inc. (CAN) is a sponsor of the CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) and a non-profit organization. Our agency is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) . Our purpose is to train, educate, and provide reimbursements' to the providers who care for children in their home.
The CACFP is a federally funded United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program administered by the Louisiana Department of Education, Division of Nutrition Support. The CACFP enables child and adult care institutions and family day care homes to provide nutritious meals and snacks to their participants.
Family Day Care Homes must sign an agreement with a sponsoring organization to participate in the CACFP. Day care homes may be licensed and approved to provide day care services in the Provider’s residence. Children from birth through 12 years of age may be enrolled for CACFP benefits.
What areas do we Service?
Residents of Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Rapides, St Landry, St Martin, St Mary, Terrebonne and Vermilion Parishes are eligible to participate in the program if they are currently providing childcare in their homes to children ages birth-12 years of age.

Breakfast: $1.70
AM/PM Snack: $0.96
Lunch/Supper: $3.22
Program Eligibility
The caregiver must provide organized childcare (at least 15 hours per week) in their own personal residence
There may not be more than six (6) children under the age of thirteen (13) years of age in the home during hours of care, including the children who live in the home
The caregiver must provide childcare and meal service for at least one non-resident child (who does not reside in the home)
The caregiver must prepare and serve meals to the enrolled children
The caregiver must sign an agreement with a FDCHFP Sponsoring Agency approved by the Division of Nutrition Support
The caregiver must agree to allow FDCHFP Sponsoring Agency personnel, Division of Nutrition Support personnel, and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) personnel to enter the residence for unannounced monitoring visits during hours of operation
The residence must be inspected annually by the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal
